What makes up a great salesperson? Here, we have built up a list of characteristics, traits and skills of a successful salesperson. If you don't have any or all of these, it's time to work on them now because you're definitely leaving money on the table and/or losing potential customers!
Listening skills - Your customer will always tell you how to close them. You just have to listen and find their pain. Once you find this pain, it's time to apply some pressure by painting a painful picture and close the deal.
Positivity - If you're not an overall positive person, you're surely in the wrong business. Positivity floods through the veins and it's the most contagious thing in the world! Be happy about what you're selling!
Time management - Selling is a science. You have to tweak your schedule in order to ensure maximum productivity. Know when to follow up, when to find new leads, and when to eat lunch!
Persistence - Following up is the most important step in the sales cycle. It's important to follow up with your customers to keep your name and your product fresh in their minds. Give them a reason to pick up the phone.
Setting appointments - This adds a lot of value to your follow up calls. Be sure to set a specific date and time for the follow up call so that both you and your customer are prepared and ready to go.
Organization - I once had a salesperson who lost a sticky note with a reminder on it to call his customer at a certain time. My salesperson lost this note. It was later found under his coffee cup. Needless to say... no sale.
Preparation - This goes along with being organized. Make sure you are always prepared for your appointments. Make a checklist and be sure you have everything ready to go that is needed to close the deal.
